WIRSA State BasketbalL Tournament

All-Tournament Committee Information

UW-River Falls Campus Recreation is excited to host the 2020 WIRSA State Basketball Tournament on February 28-29.  In order to successfully run the tournament, we will need assistance from a group of volunteers working on the All-Tournament Committee.

The All-Tournament Committee will help manage each contest, oversee the tournament schedule, record results, and tabulate statistics.  Committee members will also assist with oversight of teams and spectators, the hospitality room, tournament social, special events, and overall flow of the tournament.

Volunteers will receive a free event shirt, multiple meals, snacks, drinks, and and lodging (if needed) on Friday, February 28th.  Student volunteers may also use these hours for any coursework, student organization, or honors program pending approval from your advisor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply to volunteer at the tournament?

  • Interested staff must complete the online Volunteer Application by January 31, 2020.  The All-Tournament Committee Chairs will review applications and select volunteers to work the tournament after January 31.

How much do volunteers get paid to work the tournament?

  • The tournament is designed for students to gain experience and valuable feedback more than it is for them to make money.  We do not pay volunteers, but we will provide a free event shirt, multiple meals, snacks, drinks, and and lodging (if needed) on Friday, February 28th.

How well do I have to understand the game of basketball in order to volunteer?

  • We obviously would like people to know the sport of basketball if they would like to volunteer; however, we can find a role for you that doesn't require as much knowledge of the game.  For example, if you don't understand basketball, we are not going to put you as a scorekeeper running the clock, tracking fouls, and keeping stats.

Do I have to pay to watch games when I am not scheduled to volunteer?

  • No, the tournament is free!  Come watch as much basketball as you would like.
